Props are a photographers best friend sometime and it is always an exciting time when new vendors enter our realm of sets and prop hording. ( I have newborn props a plenty with no newborn shoots) When the envelope arrives I am always giddy like a kid at Christmas. It was no different when the package from Cavendish Classic Crafts was delivered from my post man. I had never had Easter egg hats and in a variety of sizes! I already knew of a few lil noggins to put them on!
So with out further ado let me introduce you to the lovely lady behind the scenes. Ms. Samantha
Tell us a little about yourself....
I am a mom of an amazing 2 1/2 year old daughter who is my inspiration for everything! Have been married to my wonderful hubby for almost 7 years in April, and I currently work part time outside the home in addition to my crafting business.
I have an addiction to yarn(of course), chocolate, and a rather strangely large collection of salt and pepper shakers(I really don't know how it happened).
How long have you been in Business and how did you come up with the name? ( I always wonder this about businesses)
I started my business officially about a year ago. I named it Cavendish Classic Crafts for a couple of reasons: 1) Cavendish is kind of a little inside joke with my mom, who passed away. She loved the Lone Ranger, and the Cavendish Gang is where that stems from. 2) Though I tend to focus mostly on the crochet aspect of my craft, I wanted to leave it open to all things crafty.
How did you get into crafting?
I have been crafting ever since I can remember. The arts were a very big part of my life growing up. My uncle was an artist and African Safari Guide who ran a studio in Wakefield, Mass. My mother was also a very talented artist(though never professionally). She instilled in me a love of all things crafty, and we spent countless hours of my childhood creating things together.
And last what made you decided to take up crafting as a business?
I have always enjoyed creating things by hand and seeing the joy it brings others. The crochet came much later in life when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. I taught myself, just so I could make her blankets and maybe a hat. I fell in love with crochet! I love designing my own patterns, and have now begun to sell those online.
In the next year I hope to expand my pattern stores, and perhaps do a craft fair or two. I would also love to be able to do this full time eventually. The dream to work at home and be with my daughter.
